Approval of minutes
Minutes from the September PIMD quarterly meeting were accepted.
Minutes from the September USLBA meeting were distributed.
Communications - none
Treasurer's Report
The report submitted by Alex Xavier was accepted. Alex clarified the “loss”
we realized during 2011. $225 was refunded to Santa Cruz. A $1000 donation
was made to support the US Open held in Orange County in September.
Travel expenses were increased for our 2 Councilors, and the subsidy to
PIMD Playdown winners to attend the National Championships was also
increased.
Alex asked about reimbursing the San Francisco Club for Closing Day
expenses above those covered by the $1.50 per person fee paid through
tournament registrations. Bill McConachie reminded the group that the
per person reimbursement for Opening and Closing Day was set at $2.00
per person several years ago. This item was tabled for discussion during
New Business.
Councilor's Report - none
Head Umpire Report – No report from EB Parkell.
Tournament Director Report
Bud Birkenseer has come up with some ideas for trimming redundant
tournaments in the PIMD schedule and adding some tournaments with
new formats. He encouraged clubs to recruit members to participate in
our tournaments and suggested that he send a blanket e-mail to all PIMD
members with tournament information and registration procedures. There
will be an option to unsubscribe if information is not wanted. Bud would
like feedback from clubs about anything having to do with tournaments
before the scheduling meeting to be held in Berkeley at 9:30 on
January 7, 2012.
Publicity
Mike Coiner shared a graph that shows the number of hits on the PIMD
website. Usage was high during the summer months. He encouraged those
who visit the site to use the voting option to give him feedback on website
content.
John Ogden announced that Frank Ransome has been awarded membership
in the USLBA Hall of Fame.
Constitution
Mike Coiner reported on the ongoing work to revise the PIMD Constitution
dates 2001.
The committee will present the revisions to the 2012 PIMD Board for review
and implementation. Peter Knopf referenced the USLBA minutes and
suggested that some possible changes in the USLBA Constitution might
affect the PIMD Constitution. The new PIMD Board will have to insure that
both constitutions are aligned.
Election of New Board members
Howard Mackey, representing the Nominating Committee, presented
the slate of PIMD officers for 2012. They are:
President – Greg Fyvie
Vice President – Mary Scott
Treasurer- Alex Xavier
Secretary- Ginger Harris
There were no nominations from the floor. The slate was approved by a vote
of the representatives present.
President's Report
Ian Harris thanked all board members for their efforts during the past year.
He recognized PIMD members' successes in tournaments outside of our
division.
Old Business
Mary Scott reminded the group that the latest version of the New Member
Guide is available on the PIMD website. This should be given to all new
club members. Mary referenced pages from the USLBA minutes relative
to Marketing and the Mortar contract. The Mortar contract has not been
renewed. USLBA intends to hire a Marketing Director who has direct
knowledge of lawn bowling.
Several representatives had questions about the USLBA expenses and
financial report. Greg Fyvie will request three years of financial data to
help us understand how the dues paid to USLBA are used.
New Business
After a discussion about hospitality fees, a motion was made by Gary Knox
to keep the current $1.50 hospitality fee (from tournament registration fees)
and to subsidize Opening and Closing Days only with a $.50 fee per bowler
to be paid from the PIMD treasury. The motion was carried.
Larry Collaco provided flyers for the San Jose Winter League.
Sign-ups are now open.
Greg Fyvie suggested that members visit the USLBA website.
Next meeting – 9:30 on January 7, 2012 at the Berkeley Lawn Bowls Club.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:30 a.m.
